This is written to be read, not to protect anybody legally. Where something is imperfect it says so.

The short version

Your entries are stored on your phone and are not uploaded, backed up to us, or synced. There is no account. We cannot read your notes, and we could not hand them over if we were asked to, because we do not have them.

One exception, and it is the important one: if you use the write-up feature, the text of what you said is sent off the phone to be tidied. Details below.

What happens to what you say

WhatWhere it goes
The audio of your recording Nowhere. Speech is turned into text by software running on your phone, and the audio is deleted once that is done. It is never uploaded.
The text of what you said, plus the names you have tagged Sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to a specialist AI text-processing provider to be cleaned up and summarised, and returns the result to your phone. Our server keeps no copy and writes nothing to its logs. The provider may hold it briefly for abuse monitoring, and is not permitted to use it for anything else.
Your finished entries, photos and files Stored in the app's own private area on your phone. Not uploaded.
Your PIN Stored in the iOS Keychain as a scrambled value, on that device only. The number itself is not saved anywhere, including by us.
Anything you export A PDF saved or shared by you, wherever you choose to send it. Once it leaves the app it is subject to whatever you sent it through.

The write-up is optional

An entry is saved, dated and usable without it. If you would rather nothing ever left the phone, you can turn the write-up off and keep the record entirely local. You lose the tidying and the one-line summary, and nothing else.

What we do not do

No analytics. No crash reporting. No advertising. No tracking of any kind, and nothing shared with data brokers. This page loads no fonts, scripts or images from anywhere else, which you can check for yourself.

The only other connection the app makes is on first run, when it downloads the speech-to-text software from the service that hosts it. It is the same generic file everyone gets, and nothing goes the other way.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 13 and is not directed at them.

Your rights

Because your entries are on your device and not on our systems, most data rights are things you exercise directly: you can read, change or delete any entry in the app, and deleting the app removes all of it. We hold no account to close and no profile to export.

For the write-up step we act as the data controller and the provider acts as our processor. If you want that processing to stop, turn the write-up off. If you would like to know which provider we are using at the moment, just ask — we will tell you. If you have a complaint, you also have the right to raise it with the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.

Changes

If this changes in a way that affects what leaves your phone, the date at the top changes and the change is described here rather than absorbed silently.
